EXHIBITION AROUND MONDRIAAN’S STUDIO.
30 years Dooyewaard Foundation.
On view from 4 February to 4 May 2025 in the Nardinc Gallery of Singer Laren.
“Around Mondriaan’s Studio” covers the 30 year history of the Dooyewaard Foundation. From the first purchase of the Stipendium studio to the spectacular discovery of Mondriaan’s studio and Hart Nibbrig’s studio, the foundation has been committed to the preservation of historic studios from the artists’ villages of Laren and Blaricum. It makes these studios available to selected artists and innovative projects such as the Mondrian Initiative. By creating a new Colony, the Dooyewaard foundation has shown that the Gooi region remains vibrant as a place for inspiring art.
The exhibition in Singer Laren shows a selection of work of young talent and more established names from the art world. All were Artist in Residence (for a short or longer working period) in one of the 5 studios in Blaricum. Participating artists: Anouk van Zwieten, Eline Boerma, Emo Verkerk, Hidenori Mitsue, Jan Timmers, Janine van Oene, Jessica Skowroneck, Kim Habers, Marie Reintjes, Marloes Roeper, Nathalie Duivenvoorden, Niek Hendrix, Robin Speijer, Ronald Zuurmond, Sam Hersbach, Sam Reekers, Sam Werkhoven, Stijn Rietman, Tamar Frank, and on location: Thomas Hirschhorn. There will also be a short film clip on view recording the residency of Sophia Al Maria and Emanuele Coccia that gives an insight into life and work in the Colony today.
Jacob and Willem Dooyewaard.
The namesakes of the Foundation, brothers Jacob and Willem Dooyewaard, were close friends of the Singers and accomplished painters themselves. They realised that with the growth of the villages of Laren and Blaricum, the rural and cultural appeal of the area came under pressure. Many of the existing studios and colony huts were demolished to make way for homes. Part of their legacy was used to set up the Dooyewaard Foundation 30 years ago. On the occasion of this anniversary, a richly illustrated book has been published, for sale in the Singer shop and on the website www.dooyewaardstichting.nl.
